  • The Power of A Pencil

I don't know what it is about pens and me.  For some reason, I don't do especially well when writing plans for my business with a pen.  Perhaps it's the permanence of the ink.  It seems so final. Certainly you can white it out but there is something about the pencil that feels so right to me.

With a pencil, I can plan my business strategies in one direction.  If I decide to reverse course, I'm back to the beginning with a couple of passes with my stick eraser.

I think each business owner needs to capture his or her plans for their business on paper.  For those of you who have grown up with a computer in your house, use the word processing software to capture your ideas.

The point is to see your ideas so they may spur you to action.  Whether it's planning a new revenue stream, outlet or product, putting them down somewhere lets you focus your mind to make it happen.

I know this works better than keeping it in your head because I used that approach in the past.  Time passes and you forget what it was you wanted to accomplish.  Seeing it helps activate something inside you to make that next step.

I am a CPA in San Antonio and serve individuals and small businesses in San Antonio and surrounding areas.
