    • Careful with what you say, the world is a small place

    It's funny how small the world really is.  Early in my professional career, I made a little funny with a business acquaintance as the butt of the joke.  It was not my intention to shame him but I just needed someone to hang the joke on to make it funny.  In a city of over a million people (San Antonio), I wasn't really worried about the repercussions.  I learned a valuable lesson that year.
     
    Within two weeks, I received a call from the "victim" of the joke.  I was shocked to say the least.  I was surprised at how easily (and quickly) the joke made it's way to him.  He was good natured about it and understood I was just trying (and failing) to be funny.
     
    So, I learned early on in my professional career not to be careless about what I say.  It's amazing how small our world really is.
