  • The right tool for the job

It's a poor workman who blames his tools.  I remember some variation of that line in my youth.  I have to admit I never really understood what it meant until I reached adulthood.  Now I do.

The tools and equipment you carry to do your work is a reflection on you as a worker.  Buy the best you can afford to do the job right.  Whether it's a computer for my type of work or hand tools for someone in the trades.  Either way, it's a reflection on the person who selected "those tools" in the first place.

Today, I need to finish a few office tasks a client is waiting to receive Monday.  Years ago, I made the investment in a laptop.  Now I'm no longer tethered to working at the office but can work at home, another city, the park...well you get the idea.

Each year, I try and look for a way to simplify office tasks by having the right tool in our "bag".  I don't want to be the guy blaming his tools as the cause for inferior work.
