  • Knowledge is power

My daughter's car broke down a few days ago.  With the towing and the repair bill, it was not exactly a minor cost.

The mechanic said the car needed among other things a battery (that much I figured out) and a fuel pump.  It was the fuel pump which threw me.  How exactly can a fuel pump go out on a car that isn't used that often.  The answer was actually pretty simple.  When you put only a few bucks of gas into the tank, it makes the pump work harder to get the fuel where it's supposed to go.  Oh, I see.

I've been driving a vehicle since I was in my mid teens (and actually before it was legal) but I never knew about the working harder on the pump part.

It was hard for me to be too upset with my daughter because quite honestly, I didn't know either.  The only reason I fill up to the top is so I won't find myself stranded somewhere and perhaps because the per gallon price is going up everytime I stop for a fill up.

So, knowledge is power and can even save you money if you employ it properly.
