  • Opportunities go to the ones who are prepared

When I first started my practice, I began by working out of my home.  Not a big deal as many service businesses have started that way.  Over time, the volume became so large that I found it better to office outside my home.

Opportunities present themselves when you are prepared and position yourself to accept them.  When you have an office, you have an opportunity for walk in business simply because of the traffic of people who see your marquee.

I know of businesses which continue to operate out of their home and their are a lot of plusses which go along with that.  For me, I like having separation of where I live and where I work.  Years ago, I was using my home office to "finish up" work I didn't get to at my work space in a rented office building.  Eventually I grew resentful of never feeling like I could decompress in my home from a long day at the office since another work area was still available.

I like to be prepared for work but with separation of work and personal spaces.  I feel (for me) that the opportunities for new work and quality of life are higher that way.
