The death of Al Davis really brings things into focus.  Willing to take chances, he became the youngest coach in professional football during a time when the herd of coaches took a slow climb to the top.

Bucking the trend, he was the first to hire minority coaches as the first NFL owner to hire a Black head coach and the first to hire a Latino head coach.

His teams were among the most successful in his era and it was because he was willing to take chances.
