So you've taken the plunge and opened your own business.  Great!  I recommend seeking an experienced tax professional even if you've only just opened.  Budget a little money for a consultation with a tax professional who works with business owners. Why?  To make sure you take advantage of the tax deductions available to business owners.

Don't be afraid to contact a number of tax professionals.  Call them on the phone and interview them to see if you are comfortable with their expertise and if they have experience in your particular industry.  Once you have decided on the one you feel most comfortable with, set an appointment and make an agenda of what you want to discuss.  Having a plan of what you want to cover keeps your costs down since you will be less likely to waste consulting time and the related fees you will be charged.
