Communication between parties is key

I had been letting my goatee grow out for about 7 months now (at least I think 7 months).  I now had the length to shape it in the style which I thought would be cool.  So what happened?  

I walked into a old school Barber shop and figured they would know what they're doing.  To begin with, we had a bit of a communication problem but I attempted to pantomime what I wanted.  It didn't do any good as the Barber trimmed my goatee to resemble the other customers in the shop at that time (not what I wanted).

Make sure you ask and are certain what the client wants.  I don't plan on revisiting that Barber shop because I did not get what I wanted.  Communication is key to keeping clients coming back.
