    When I entered the work force (decades ago), I thought the smart money was on working for a large company, rising through the ranks and retiring there. It made sense to me since family had been doing that for generations. Over time however things changed. Companies more and more started laying people off while others sent American jobs overseas. I made what was thought to be a risky move by starting my own business. Now that I've been self employed for quite awhile, I feel more secure about my future than I ever did working in big business. Perhaps there may have been a stigma working a small business years ago instead of being part of a large organization but that's definitely not true today.
