Statistics in business are merely a guide

I play the odds in business.  Spend money and hope where you spend it returns more than your investment.  Whether the money is spent on infrastructure, advertising, labor, I use statistics as a useful tool. 

If I paid attention to only statistics, I never would have started a business.  The old addage of how many new businesses fail in the first 5 years should have scared me off.  The important thing is to realize how critical the decisions made in the first 5 years are to the success of a new operation and use statistics as a way to help you balance your judgement.
