Sometimes doing nothing sends a message

When we moved to our present offices, I knew there was an active neighborhood association.  I had considered joining right away but decided to shelve the idea as I didn't want to give the neighborhood the impression that I was all about the money and a who can I sign up right away attitude.

I had a potential new client and neighborhood resident stop in to visit me yesterday and he shared some of the comments the area residents had about one of the newest businesses to the area (mine).  They like the idea of a CPA in a building which has long been a location to many short term business ventures.  I suppose they feel a CPA office should be a stable business and hopefully a long time building occupant.  The association's current concern is why haven't I joined with them yet. 

Sometimes doing nothing sends a message.  In my case, I inadvertantly sent a message of isolation and perhaps that I don't want to be a part of something that can help everyone in the area.  It's a message which I plan to change by joining them and getting to know them better.
