Are you better off today than you were 5 years ago?A time ago, I worked in corporate America. I have kept in touch with former coworkers because networking is a sound concept. One day you're up and the next you could be down. Those you stay in contact with can buffer your fall or raise your fortunes.
Well, a thought hit me as I was getting ready for bed last night. I wondered if people who are working for someone else are better off now than they were say five years ago.
I read on-line, watch TV and listen to the radio. A steady stream of job reductions and budget cuts are familiar themes. I'm sure those who work for a company have a nagging worry about their own job security.
For better job security, I constantly encourage people to start a business. One of my best decisions ever was to begin one of my own. Sure it was scary. Trading the security of a steady paycheck for the unknown of self employment. Family was fearful for me and counseled me on the merit of striking out on my own. "What if you fail?"
Well, news of gloom and doom don't bother me when I read about layoffs. I look at the world differently as a business owner. I have no ceiling on me as to how much I can make.
Am I better off now than say five years ago. Yes. I am five years more established, I am happy, I have a broader base of clients and I have freedom to control my own destiny. How about you?
I am a CPA in San Antonio and serve individuals and small businesses in San Antonio and surrounding areas.
