Start an emergency fundIn America's past, we were able to save sizable nest eggs for emergencies and retirement. In today's immediate consumption mentality, the amount of personal savings doesn't measure up to what our countrymen where able to do so many years ago.
You would think with the increase of educated people, we would be able to recognize the importance of rainy day savings but somehow it's so hard for people to accomplish.
If you have an emergency nest egg then great. If not, just start one, even on a small level as a way to get going on a program.
I'll bet if you tried hard enough, you could find some fat to trim from your current spending and can put that money to work for you to use for when you are ready to retire or at minimum need for a rainy day (i.e. emergency fund).
