Have a passion for somethingI had a meeting with a potential new client yesterday. During the meeting, we spoke on a great many things and it hit me that chief among what you do for a living is to have a passion for it.
I have seen people in corporate America go through the motions because they need the paycheck but really don't care for what they're having to do to get it. I don't mean they are underperforming, rather I think their current job was taken because it paid well and perhaps offered a bit of job security.
If you need to work for someone (or some big corporation) to financially provide for your family then sometimes you take a job because of money rather than job satisfaction. If that is the choice then look for an outlet to be passionate about when you are on your own time.
I love what I do for a living. I'm not saying that just to sell you something, I'm saying it because I really love what I do for a living.
For those of you who read my blogs regularly, you know I have worked as an employee before I struck out on my own path to self employment. Perhaps you work for someone and take comfort in knowing your current job like the back of your own hand. You are so grooved in how you do it that you could seemingly perform the role in your sleep.
I like knowing that something new may walk through my office door that I've never had the pleasure of working on before. That may sound scary but it really invigorates you because like the chocolates described in the movie Forest Gump, you never know what you are going to get.
