A celebration which was decades in the makingI now share a bed with a Doctor. I wonder how food will taste when prepared by the hands of a highly educated member of society. Will I become smarter simply because the morning eggs are scrambled by the whisking prowess of her hands? Is being married to a highly schooled woman the new status symbol? Will she suddenly realize that she needs to upgrade from me as her current Husband? To get to where I am now, I must begin the story a long time ago.
I met my Wife in College when we both fresh out of High School. We both grew up in San Antonio but in different parts of the city and first became aware of each other in a College English class.
I didn't know she was "the one" until a Halloween dance that same Fall. She was dressed as a Mummy while I was in street clothes. She's always joked that I looked interesting in my costume. Very funny...
Eventually, we agreed to date exclusively and after a long courtship married. It was always her dream to become a Doctor and yesterday she crossed the stage to seal the deal.
Since she was a little girl, she wanted to be a Doctor. She had said the same thing to me many times. Still, it was hard to believe it would really ever happen since so few people ever reach that level of learning (the U.S. has perhaps 3% of all Americans who meet the criteria).
I was so proud to see her cross the stage yesterday and I am genuinely happy for her. It just goes to show you that a dream, the willingness to dedicate yourself and a plan to reach a goal still works in America.
It was some Celebration! Big accomplishments deserve them.
