My Mother's words ringing in my brain
It was a different time. As a young boy, we went out perhaps once a week. When I say went out, I mean for a meal at a restaurant.
In my youth, You had to dress up to eat out. Comb your hair, put on your dressier clothes, mind your manners (or else). To say today is different is putting it mildly.
I was invited by a client to a season's Dinner function at a local restaurant. I'm a more burger and fries kind of guy instead of a frou frou meal guy. Know who you are and life is so much better.
Anyway, I'm sitting in the restaurant yesterday evening trying to be engaging with conversation instead of a playing the role of black hole no communicado. Let everyone speak before you respond, no elbows resting on the table, cut your burger in half so you represent the family well.
My Mother is still alive but she doesn't have to be with me for me to hear her words.
Don't worry Mom, the family shouldn't be embarrassed by my actions. You taught me well.
