Thoughts can change just like peopleAt least 10 years. Maybe more. That's how long it's been since I wore a watch. Don't know why. I think it had something to do with my thoughts on redundancy. Since I have a cell phone, all I needed to do was look at the time on the phone itself. My original thought of going sans watch was the realization that my phone could provide the time just fine.
In the past couple days, my thoughts have shifted the other way. There is to me a certain style in wearing a watch. I grabbed my small collection of watches and finally took them into the jewelry store the other day. At present, I'm wearing a Timex Expedition with indiglo illumination. It's not a particularly expensive watch but I like its rugged design. During last night, I woke up four or five times (yes, I find waking up that many times also peculiar). At my age, it takes time for my eyes to focus properly in order to read the alarm clock on the night stand. Not last night. Instead of rolling toward the alarm clock, I merely peered at my wrist and there was my answer giving me time, day and date.
I had for a great while considered watches merely functional. They're so much more. They are jewelry, and can even serve as a means to break the ice on conversation. After all, how many times have you asked someone if they have a cell phone to check the time?
