How to get a little help for transportationI'm going to do it. That's for sure. What is it I'm going to do? Bicycle to work and I'm only waiting for the school year to end for my youngest before I start (perhaps a week and a half). Still, the thought of cycling uphill one after another on the way home already has my knees sore.
I have been doing a little research on battery operated motors for one of my bicycles. I'm not looking for the motor to do all the work but just a little help on those series of hills I'll have to ride all the way home. In addition, I want to ride "in style". The bicycle I'm thinking of using the motor for is a black semi-recumbent BikeE CT I already own.
One of the things recumbents are very good at is riding flat terrain and downhill. Riding uphill on one of those babies is just plain hard to do because of the leverage you give up not being able to mash down on the pedals like you can with a regular bike.
My research seems to bear out an outlay of $1000 to properly equip a bicycle with a long lasting motor. I'm not crazy about spending that kind of money but perhaps knowing I'm saving fuel and improving my health by cycling to and from work will make that cost a little easier to swallow.
