Operating a business successfully takes everything you've got

When you work as an employee for a company, you know the start time for your job and the quitting time.  When running your own business, it takes everything you've got.  Looking to the horizon of where your business needs to go, staffing, inventory, payables, receivables, the works.

You need to be committed to nurturing your business to take root and grow.  There are so many variables which can go wrong and keeping your hand on the pulse of your business long before bad things happen help to avoid it becoming another failed business statistic.

Additionally, one of the hardest things about running a business is learning to leave it at the end of the work day.  I'm not talking about leaving the office/store building, I'm talking about life/work balance where you turn your brain off with regard to deadlines, work load and such so you may recharge your batteries.  

If you have the guts to sacrifice a steady paycheck for self employment, you need to do all you can to avoid having to close the doors and become another employee somewhere with a regrets of what you should have done differently but didn't.
