Business and a life of uncertainty
For small business owners, no one knows if their concept is going to become the next goliath in the market (Ex: McDonalds, KFC, Walmart). You do the best you can and hope to grow the business. Each day is spent building your company and not much time on capturing moments of the journey.
I was meeting with a professional photographer yesterday to discuss having some old photos restored. I plan on hanging them (the photos) on the walls of our offices. The family photos came from the 1910's throught the 1940's. In one photo, my family appears to be dressed in their finest clothes and yet some of the wash can be seen hangin from a close line at the left portion of the photo. Perhaps they did not foresee this photo to one day be mounted on a wall but it will come to pass.
The people in the photos are captured in a moment out of time. I really don't suppose they thought those particular photos would be all that remains of what future generations would see of them. Had they known, I'm sure they would have taken more care for posterities sake.
I've had a business now for a couple of decades. I haven't taken photos of my journey along the way but wish I had. Perhaps I should start now for the family members that come long after I'm gone. Maybe a generation or two later, a picture of me in my office may inspire them to start their own business.
